1. Can you tell
me what is a virtual domain is?
A virtual domain allows you to have your own domain name (http://www.yourname.com
or http://yourname.com) as well as your own email addresses, i.e. you@yourdomain.com,
etc.
2. Where do you recommend I purchase a domain from or do
you provide domains?
We use DomainApples.com (http://www.DomainApples.com) to register our domains.
They provide cheap domains and once you have registered a domain name, you just
fill in our DNS server settings in your DomainApples domain account to point it
to our servers.
We will be providing domain names to our customers in the near future but for
now,
DomainApples is the cheapest arround to get you started.
3. What settings should I use for my domain name servers?
You need to point your existing domains to the following:
ns891.websitewelcome.com
ns892.websitewelcome.com
4. How long does it take for my domain name to be active
so people can find my website?
You NEED to allow up to 72 hours for the new name server information to fully
propagate in order to access your account through HTTP, FTP, SMTP, POP services
using your domain name. We have no control over DNS propagation... your domain
could resolve in 24 hours or take up to 72 hours.
5. Is there a cost involved to transfer my domain from
another company to HostApples.com?
No, there are not any extra charges for you to transfer a domain to our hosting
service.
6. Can I host a sub-domain (name.yourdomain.com) at
HostApples.com?
Yes you can. We offer hosting for sub domains when you join.
7. How do I access my domain cPanel control panel?
Go to http://www.yourdomain.com:2082 and use your username and password.
8. Do you provide a user manual for the CPanel control
panel?

9. What does FTP stands for and what is it?
FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol and it is the process used to upload and
download files from a web server. This is done using an FTP client like Ws_FTP
and Cute FTP or Smart FTP
10. Where can I find a FTP program to transfer my web
files to the web?
For CuteFTP go to http://www.cuteftp.com/
For Ws_FTP go to http://www.ipswitch.com/Products/WS_FTP

11. How do I FTP (Log In) into my online hosting account
using a FTP program?
To transfer files or browse through your directory using FTP you need to connect
with an
FTP client to hostname ftp.yourdomain.com or until your domain name resolve you
can use
your ip address. Use port 21, and login with your account username and password.
Remember any files that you want viewable on the web should be uploaded to the "public_html"
directory. Refer to our online manual for detailed instruction on doing this.
Any scripts must be uploaded into the CGI-Bin
12. What if I can't or don't want to use the FTP program
altogether?
Login to your account and go to "Access Menu". From there click "File Manager".
Under the File Manager click "Upload Files".Y ou can also use Frontpage
(extensions enables) and upload files via yuir frontpage html editor.
Contact us to if you need help with your frontpage extensions (if it's not
installed by default)
13. I have created an additional ftp account in the
control panel. How do users connect to it?
They would use the same procedure as above, but they need to enter their
username as user@yourdomain.com. For instance, if you create a user called john,
he would log in with the username john@yourdomain.com. Where [yourdomain.com] is
your actual domain name.
14. What is Anonymous FTP?
Note: When allowing your users to connect to your site using anonymous FTP, this
could create a security loop hole as users can upload undesirebale or malice
content to your site.
But here's how it works: - when anonymous ftp is turned on in your account,
anonymous ftp users have access to your "public_ftp" folder. To set things up
for anonymous ftp access, log into your cpanel and click on "Account Settings ".
Under Account Settings click "FTP Manager". The second checkbox allows anonymous
ftp users to upload to your /public_ftp/incoming folder. No anonymous ftp users
can view or download the contents of the /public_ftp/incoming folder.
To connect with an ftp program as an anonymous ftp user, you need to use
ftp@your_domain.com as the username. Leave the password field blank. The
hostname is ftp.your_domain.com . Please use port 21.
15. I've uploaded my web files, but why is nothing is
showing up when I try to view my site in a browser? My FTP program is having
some problems connecting, how can I fix this?
Double check that you have uploaded your files to the "public_html" or "www"
folder.
Check that you have named your default page: index.html, index.htm, home.html or
home.htm
Be sure that you have entered the correct values for your ftp login and password
details paying attention to case sensitive characters. Also double check that
your FTP program is set to access port number 21.
Also verify that you currently have a connection to the internet and that your
ISP is not having any problems. If you are behind a firewall, try enabling
"passive mode" on your FTP program.
16. When I upload my website's files to the server why do
they become corrupt?
Make sure that your FTP application is set to automatically detect ACSII or
binary mode.
17. How much downtime will there be when I transfer my
website to you?
As long as things are done properly there should be no downtime as a result of
the moving your old site. We suggest following these steps:
1. Sign up for an account with HostApples.com.
2. Upload your website to our servers and test to make sure everything appears
as it should
3. Update the name servers with your domain registrar to point to the ones we
will provide in your welcome email .
4. Wait a few days before canceling your old hosting plan. It can take a couple
of days for a domain to transfer and it is best to leave some overlap to ensure
there is no downtime.
If you follow these steps the transition will happen hassle free without any
downtime.
18. Do you offer a money-back guarantee?

22. What are CGI scripts and can I use them on my website?
CGI (Common Gateway Interface) is a process used by the server to pass
information between the user and an application on the server.
With CGI access, you can install Perl scripts on your website for such things as
visitor poll
forms, guestbook, visitor counters, affiliate scripts etc.
23. Do you know where can I find some free CGI scripts?

29. What PERL modules are installed and available for use?
For a list of installed perl modules, log into your cpanel, go down to
"installed perl modules" and click "click here to view"
30. How do I connect to my email account?
There are a couple of methods for doing this. The easiest is to log into your
control panel, click on "POP email accounts", and then click on the autoconfig
link next to the account you want to set up in Microsoft Outlook or Outlook
Express (assuming you use one of these email programs). This will automatically
set up the email for Outlook or Outlook Express.
If you've set up your email accounts you can also access them by going to
www.yourdomain.com:2095
31. Connecting to email accounts using Netscape mail?
There is an issue with Netscape regarding the use of the "@" symbol in the
username.
In order to log into your email account with a username with an embedded "@"
using Netscape, you have to go into the user's profile directory for Netscape
and edit the "prefs.js" file. Add the following line:
user_pref("mail.allow_at_sign_in_user_name",true);
That should fix the issue.
32. Where can I find detailed documentation about MySQL
databases?
You can go to http://www.mysql.com or you can try http://www.mysql.org . At
mysql.org,
click on the documentation button.
33. Is there an operating manual for HostApples.com
customers?
Yes, just click on the help button inside your control panel for the manual
34. Is there a minimum contract period?
There's no minimum tie-in contract. You pay-as-you go.
35. Can I host adult sites?
